The building known as The Mint, is the Head Office of the
Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales, which runs 12 public museums and
historic houses, including the Hyde Park Barracks Museum next door.
The Royal Mint, Sydney, operated on this site from 1855 to
1926, processing over 1200 tons of gold from the Australian goldfields and
producing over 150 million coins. The building then housed Government offices
and later a museum. The surviving colonial buildings have been conserved, and
new buildings seamlessly integrated with the historic structures.
